Checkout the "New looks" of the MSDN Web site

The MSDN team has re-launched the web site: http://msdn.microsoft.com and it looks pretty interesting. It has a useable, albeit "tame" navigation, but check out the bottom of the page (I.e., scroll down) and you will see (IMHO) the best part of the new UI: Links to what, for me, are the most commonly used parts of MSDN when I am not there on a "search for help..." mission!

I started off being impressed by the content of the WSS section too.

Until that is I clicked on Learn and saw the list of Books.

All (except one) were for WSS 2.0 or SPS 2003.

Very poor selection on that page 18 months into WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007!

Firstly, thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. It's also very interesting feedback, as I hadn't noticed what you point out in your post.

I wonder, btw I haven't asked if this is the case, if they are still listing SharePoing 2003 content, because there are so many organizations that are still running SharePoint 2003 and have not yet upgraded to 2007. Again, it's just conjecture on my part about the MSDN site, but I still routinely meet with customers who are on SharePoint 2003.

I am thinking that maybe the site is for SharePoint/MOSS 2003 and 2007 and not just for the current version, although I don't see content about SharePoint 2001. If so, I think that it's a good idea to set it up as just "SharePoint (WSS, SPS, MOSS 2007) Learning" versus WSS/MOSS 2007. That way, when Office 14 comes out (with the new version of SharePoint), they can just add to this section of the portal rather than depricating the 2003/2007 stuff. Giving customer who have not upgraded acess to information, until (hopefully) they upgrade.

Just my read on the subject,
